  • The Shorin-Ryu Okinawan Karate Question & Answer Book by Robert Scaglione
  • Building the Warrior Spirit with Gan, Soku, Tanden, Riki by Robert Scaglione
  • The Essence of Okinawan Karate-Do by Shoshin Nagamine
The first two books can be purchased from your Sensei.
For the third, just follow the link.

Gi and Belt:
The Gi (traditional karate uniform) can be purchased from Sensei Oscarson or from Key Martial Arts at 2778 North Harbor City Blvd in Melbourne.  Women are asked to either wear a shirt underneath the Gi or to secure the Gi jacket closed with a pin or snap.

The sleeves should be shortened to make the wrists visible, if necessary, and the pant legs should be short enough so that the ankles are visible.  Also, the black label sewn into the front bottom portion of the Gi jacket should be removed.

Colored tips should be sewn onto belt ends so they do not slip off.

NOTE:  Deshi under age 18 wear color belts with a white stripe down the middle.

Patch:
The Shorin-Ryu patch can be purchased from your Sensei before attaining the rank of Ro-Kyu (one green tip).  The patch is sewn onto the upper left side of the Gi jacket.

Karate Creed:

I come to you only with karate.
My hands are empty, but I fear no man.
Should I be forced to defend myself, my honor, or my
principles -- should it be a matter of right or wrong, life or death -- then here are my weapons:  my empty hands.
